BTISNET - Centre of Excellence
School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (SC&IS) presently consists of three centers, namely, Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CCBB), High Performance Computing Center (HPCF) and Centre for Complex Systems Study ( approved by the UGC in XIth plan during 2008-09 along with five faculty positions). At present ten faculty members are working in our school and four faculty positions are advertized for recruitment in 2010. Two faculty members name Dr Rashi Gupta and Kushal Shah are working in COE-DBT in Bioinformatics at JNU.Taking note of this trend BIC-JNU was renamed its centre as Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CCBB).
Our main objective of human resource development activities and research in frontier areas of computational biology has taken a shape and recognition within the country. We are also making concrete effort in inter–institutional collaboration in research projects. To keep pace with the development in the field, impetus is given to set up the necessary infrastructure and resources for the academic community.
A major characteristic of SC&IS is its emphasis on inter-disciplinary research like Computational Genomics, Development of Tools for Bioinformatics, Structure based Bioinformatics and in silico Drug Discovery, Chemoinformatics, Database Management, Microarray Analysis and Datamining, Systems biology and Evolutionary biology.
Major Project and field or research in Tuberculosis, Dengue, Malaria like diseases using proteomics, genomics and 'in silico' research.
After 5 years of conducting BINC examination by University of Pune, recently in 2010, JNU, New Delhi has been identified as a nodal agency by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to coordinate this examination. BINC 2011 examination will be held from Feb 26th -27th 2011 along with six centres namely, Pune University, Pune; Anna University, Chennai; West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata; Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
